The IRS reports the following types of scams are currently underway: a.. Rebate Phone Call - Consumers are receiving a phone call from individuals claiming to be IRS employees. These fake employees claim that the consumer is eligible for a large rebate for filing taxes early. The fake employees then claim to need the consumer's bank account information in order to do a direct deposit of this rebate. Of course, if the consumer refuses to provide this information the fake IRS employee claims that the consumer can not then receive the rebate. This is a scam, the IRS does not gather this information by telephone. a.. Refund e-Mail - A number of variations of a refund-related phishing e-mail which make false claims to be from the IRS are in circulation. This fake e-mail attempts trick consumers into clicking on a link within the e-mail in order to access a refund claim form. This refund claim form requires the consumer to provide personal information such as bank or credit card account in order to claim the refund. This is a scam; the IRS does not send unsolicited e-mail about tax account matters to individuals, businesses, or other taxpayers. Be safe, delete any e-mail from the IRS regarding this matter. a.. Audit e-Mail - A new scam being circulated through e-mail claims that a consumer's tax return will be audited. This scam has not been seen before by the IRS. Be aware this scam is a targeted attack as it is specific to the e-mail recipient by name. This scam e-mail attempts to trick a consumer into following links to complete forms with personal and account information which will be then used by the scammers to commit identity theft. This is a fake e-mail. The IRS does not send unsolicited, tax-account related e-mails to taxpayers. Delete any e-mails received form the IRS relating to this matter. a.. Changes to Tax Law e-Mail - This scam email is addressed to businesses, accountants and "Treasury" managers. This e-mail attempts to trick these individuals or businesses into downloading information on tax law changes by following links within the e-mail. When an individual or business clicks on these links their computers are infected with malicious software which then steals passwords, financial account information and other data. a.. Paper Check Phone Call - This telephone scam claims to be an IRS employee who is calling because of an IRS check sent to the individual. The fake IRS employee states that because the check has not been cashed the IRS wants to verify the bank account number. The fake IRS employee may have a foreign accent. The IRS will not call to verify whether or not a check has been cached and does not ask for bank account or other similar information. These scams listed above all try to use social engineering to trick consumers, businesses, and other taxpayers into revealing personal and financial information. If you are unsure about a phone call or e-mail that claims to be form the IRS then delete the e-mail or hang-up the phone. *****CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE***** This e-mail may contain information that is privileged, confidential, or otherwise exempt from disclosure under applicable law. Greetings to all, I went in this morning for my extensive lab work, x-rays, and CT-scan. The doctor (oncologist) saw me right after the CT-scan. He told me I had a very, very bad cancer. He explained that esophageal cancer is one of those "BAD" cancers. He said my cancer is about six and one half inches long and almost fills the esophagus. However, he showed me the CT-scan. He said he was not a Radiologist but has seen many scans. He did not see any sign of the cancer on any lymph nodes, nor on my liver, kidneys, or lungs. THAT IS GREAT NEWS!! He said there is a study out from the cancer institute. Through this study I can receive 6 to 8 weeks of chemo and radiation while being monitored. Then there would be surgery. I have elected to not be a part of the study but instead to attack this cancer in the most aggressive way possible. The doctor respected my decision and has set me up to see a surgeon in Wichita this coming Tuesday. The surgeon in Wichita has removed a number of esophagus' with great success. I will need to undergo about 3 to 6 weeks of chemo and/or radiation in order to shrink the cancer before my surgery. Then I will have my esophagus removed and my stomach where my esophagus used to be. The doctor said the major side effect will be that I will eat about a cup of food and be full so I will need to eat more often. I CAN LIVE WITH THAT!! I am able to eat soups, scrambled eggs, and so forth now. I cannot swallow bread. I am eating as much as possible and today I bought a bunch of ensure. I am planning to drink four or five shakes a day. I want to build myself up before surgery. MY GOAL IS TO BE CANCER FREE!! I know this can happen through the power of prayer. I know God has already answered prayers since my cancer has not spread. I cannot thank everyone enough for the prayers, cards and phone calls. PLEASE continue to pray and I know God will continue to walk with me on this journey. PRAISE GOD!!! How could a person face these type of difficult days if they did not know God. Thanks again everyone for your prayers and support!! Grace and Peace, Ken Walker No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG. It can cause distance, isolation and a general unhappiness. The common denominator for all these factors is anger, probably the most misunderstood of emotions. Well managed anger leads to peaceful solutions. This workshop will teach you how to recognize the anger in stress and how to use it creatively in making choices, identifying needs, sharing wants and setting limits and boundaries. We will look at respect and safety as the vehicles for building and maintaining respect-based relationships. You are invited to join us for this workshop if you are interested in examining your relationship with yourself or with another (spouse, parent, child, sibling, partner, fellow employee) or if you are interested in tools to improve and strengthen the relationships in your life. June 27-28 Horse Sense: What a Horse Can Teach Me about Me Fri 7pm - Sat 4pm Fee: $80 Facilitator: Jan Jantzen (Yes, Jan's a man) Everything we do in this hands-on retreat (feeding, catching, petting, smelling, leading, tying, grooming, trailer loading, etc.) will provide opportunities to observe and discuss the horse's physical characteristics, its attitudes, behaviors, body language, and instincts. Participants will have the opportunity to learn how to relate more purposely to this very different animal. "There's a little horse in all of us from time to time," says Jan. Understanding the real horse gives us a "leg up" on understanding ourselves and others. June 30 Sensing the Sacred Mon 9:30am - 3:30pm Fee: $36, includes lunch Facilitator: Rev. Please bring the pictures and supplies you believe you will need. July 14 Finding Space for Grace Mon 9:30am - 3:30pm Fee: $36, includes lunch Facilitator: Rev. And once you've found it, trust that you can and will find it again! Perhaps you'll find that grace space through journaling, walking the labyrinth, walking to the creek, guided imagery, and more. Bring a journal, a camera, and anything that offers you comfort. July 18-19 Gather the Women: A Portrait of Authenticity Fri 7pm - Sat 4pm Fee: $70 Facilitator: Rev. Billie Blair Can you imagine yourself so full of energy that you "radiate" into the outer world? Take this time away to consider the muted parts of yourself, to sift through the images of you that are authentic and those which the world has put upon you. Using a full- size, life-size outline of your body, you'll weave together symbols of who you are, how you see yourself, how others see you and what you want to strengthen and encourage in this collage of womanhood.
