Rural Life Sunday Celebration The Kansas West Conference has resolved that congregations celebrate Rural Life Sunday on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. It's a good time to thank God for the food on our tables and to celebrate all those people who play a part in producing and processing the food we enjoy. It's a good time to pay attention to the challenges and to celebrate the special blessings of life in rural areas. We are invited to celebrate Rural Life Sunday with special worship services. These might be expanded to include: Special speakers---invite a farmer or two to come share their stories. Learn about the unique ways that farmers are meeting the challenges! Field trips---visit a farm, see what farmers do! Special meals---enjoy a meal of locally grown and/or processed foods and experience the farm-to-table food connection! Remember to serve fairly traded coffee and tea with your meal! The resolution says: "A special offering is to be received to be given to the Rural Division of Kansas Ecumenical Ministries which works in partnership with the Kansas Rural Family Helpline to provide direct assistance to rural families struggling with unmet emotional, medical, financial or legal needs." For more information on Rural Life Sunday see the website at gbgm-umc.org. Click on resources, then worship, annual events, rural life sunday. And enjoy your celebration of Rural Life Sunday 2007! As always, we need peanut butter, tuna fish, and diapers. Diapers are almost $1 a piece. Unbelieveable! It is also the time of year that need amongst the working class poor in every community increases. If it is possible to take an offering and collect some of the above mentioned items before November 12th, I know that Open Door, Western Kansas UMMAM, and every local community food pantry would be appreciative. At Kechi, we ask the children to invite all members of the congregation to bring a jar of peanut butter each week during October and November for Open Door ministries. Thank you for what you can do on behalf of the poor amidst your own church needs that are probably like those at Kechi---on-going! About three weeks after surgery he started 6 1/2 weeks of chemo 7 days a week and radiation treatments 5 days a week. A month ago he had an MRI done that showed what the oncologist referred to as an enhancement - more than likely dead tissue. This past Thursday he had a PETscan done. If there was any cancer present it would have glowed - HE DIDN'T GLOW!!!!! A week ago Saturday evening (Oct. 20th) Kevin married Jodi Adams in a beautiful outdoor ceremony. We want to thank all of you who have supported Kevin and us with your prayers, notes and emails of love, hope and encouragement. We truly serve an Awesome God. Although the news is good, please don't stop praying, but continue to ask God for His healing touch upon Kevin. GOD IS SO GOOD!!!!!
