Camp Horizon Moving Forward
The new board for Camp Horizon met Saturday, Jan. 20. The board is
charged with helping Horizon continue to be a strong and vital ministry
for the Kansas West Conference. Because of some financial problems,
Horizon had to be closed so that there could be time to reorganize and
to develop a plan to help move Camp Horizon to financial stability. At
this time, the new board is meeting and working for the continued
success of Camp Horizon.
"Everybody I talk with tells me how much they love Camp Horizon," said
new board member Stuart Mack.
Former bishop Dick Wilke, who was elected the new board president for
Camp Horizon, said, "We have a lot of work to do, but we want Camp
Horizon to continue to be in ministry for our conference. One thing we
want everyone to know is that we are not selling Camp Horizon, and the
camp will be open and ready for the summer. We plan on offering a full
slate of camps for the summer."
Plans are being put in place to begin looking for a camp manager as
well. As the board moves forward, they plan on doing their best to keep
everyone informed about what is happening with Camp Horizon, and how
they can help in many different ways. One way people can help is to
encourage their church to send people to camp.
Maggie Beeler, who attended camp last year, said of the experience, "On
a scale from one to 10, it'd have to be a 10! It was awesome, and I'm
coming back next year."
Both Camp Horizon and Camp Lakeside offer summer camps for all ages.
Watch your mail and church for the new camping brochure which list all
of the summer camps for Camp Horizon and Camp Lakeside. The brochure
will be mailed the middle of February.
